Painting the exterior walls of your property can really brighten it up and give your house a whole new look. It can be fairly straightforward to do as long as you are prepared and know what you are doing. You will need ladders or for higher points ideally scaffolding. Scaffolding can cost a lot of money though so you may decide to manage with ladders and telescopic paint brushes.
You cannot use normal emulsion paint on the outside of your house, you will need to buy some exterior masonry paint, which is available in a wide range of colours. If you are changing the colour of your house you may need to check with the council as to whether you require planning permission. Often the two most popular choices are white and cream. Cream is often favoured over white as it tends to be better at hiding any dirt.
If the house has recently been rendered then you need to be aware that it will take up a lot more paint, so be sure to buy plenty. You can usually return paint that hasn’t been opened but you do not want to run out halfway through, so be sure to buy plenty.
