As we are all trying to reduce the amount we spend on heating our homes at the moment any helpful advice we can receive is welcomed with open arms. It is a fact that a great deal of heat is lost through windows and doors in our homes but there are a few things we can do to minimise this loss.
Some people when restyling their home interiors got rid of the curtains opting instead for more modern looking blinds however blinds are not as efficient as curtains when it comes to retaining the heat in a room. It may then be worth putting back the curtains, and the thicker the better, especially in an older property where the windows may be old and draughty. The choice in curtains is huge and so there will probably be some that will look good and help to keep the heat in.
It is a good idea to close the curtains as soon as it starts to get dark in the evening and leave them closed until it gets light as this will help to keep the room warm.
It is sensible to check that the doors in the property are correctly fitted as draughts coming under and around doors can make the room seem cold. Foam draught excluder can be attached to the door frame and a brush fitted to the bottom of the door can make a big difference too.
